Supply and demand of Natural Gas remains in 2019

The manager of the gas resource indicated in figures the stability of the item for the years 2020 and 2021; He also announced the launch of the “Gas Broker, a figure that will boost the secondary market for supply and transportation contracts.”

The Colombian Mercantile Exchange, in its role of Natural Gas Market Manager, offered the balance of its management to the year 2019, at its headquarters facilities, located in the city of Bogotá, indicating the stability of this item for the years 2020-2021 in terms of sectoral consumption and natural gas production in the national territory.

The meeting was led by Rafael Mejía López, president of the Mercantile Exchange of Colombia; and Andrés Pesca Ayala, Vice President of Energy Markets of the Colombian Mercantile Exchange; who offered their statements in the middle of a pleasant breakfast as a courtesy to the media specialized in the energy branch, and the Colombia Energía magazine team was present.

Dr. Mejía López highlighted the gas sector as a promising platform for the country. In addition, he said that the Natural Gas Market Manager “is a powerful tool to accompany the regulatory vision for serving public policies, for delivering key information for the decision-making of market agents.”

Natural Gas consumption in figures for 2019:

The total gas consumed in Colombia is 1061 GBTUD; distributed in the following sectors: industrial 421 GBTUD; 191 GBTUD refinery; residential 186 GBTUD; thermal generation 182 GBTUD; Natural Gas Vehicle 48 GBTUD and commercial 33 GBTUD.

Regarding production, Pesca Ayala, vice president of Energy Markets of the Mercantile Exchange of Colombia, stressed that natural gas is mainly produced in Cusiana, Cupiaga, La Guajira and Jobo, fields that total 77% of total production national.

In this regard, Andrés Pesca said that from the Natural Gas Market Manager “we see that gas production in the country is sufficient to meet the different demand segments.” Similarly, Pesca indicated that the Manager projects that industrial and residential demand will be covered for the years 2020-2021.

For Andrés Pesca, and the Natural Gas Market team, the effort that the National Government can generate in terms of exploration and development of unconventional deposits is fundamental “given that there is an interesting potential for natural gas supply sources.”

“We evaluate value-added proposals for the natural gas market, within the possibilities offered by the regulation and the capacity of the Mercantile Exchange to provide agents with more transactional opportunities. We announce that in 2020 we will launch the Gas Broker, a figure that will boost the secondary market for supply and transportation contracts, ”concluded Pesca Ayala.
